We are less than three weeks away from NCAA March Madness, so what better of a way to get my bracket picking skills oiled up then picking the WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship bracket. I found a good challenge over at GolfWeek.com, which is giving away some good prizes. Unlike NCAA March Madness, I will only have one bracket for the Golf Week Match Play Challenge.
As we all know, anything can happen in the first round, and there are some very intriguing match-ups that can go either way. Three that really stood out to me were Zach Johnson vs. Justin Rose, Hunter Mahan vs. Sean O’Hair, and Geoff Ogilvy vs. Padraig Harrington. I personally think the toughest bracket is the Sam Snead bracket, with Tiger Woods, Dustin Johnson, Geoff Ogilvy, Paul Casey, Tim Clark, Ernie Els, Bubba Watson, and Bill Haas all in this bracket.
Going a little deeper in the Championship, if my bracket works out perfectly, we will be seeing a Tiger Woods vs. Dustin Johnson matchup in the 3rd round and Rory McIlroy vs. Hunter Mahan in the fourth round. My four finalists to tee it up on Sunday are Steve
Stricker, Rory McIlroy, Matt Kuchar, and Dustin Johnson. This means I have Dustin taking out Tiger Woods and McIlroy taking out my boy Hunter. Steve Stricker has the easiest route to the sweet 16, and his toughest match will be against Edorado Molinari.
To be honest, I hope Tiger Woods wins. He needs a victory so bad and seems to be pressing too much. I don’t think he can do it though. My official pick is still going to be Dustin Johnson, I think he is due for a big win.
Another quick note; Tim Clark withdrew today due to wrist injury, so JB Holmes will be taking his place and taking on Camilio Villegas in the first round.
