Jonathan Byrd won the 2011 Hyuandai Tournament of Champions on the second playoff hole to take the first tournament of the year. He beat Robert Garrigus on the second playoff hole after both guys parred the 18th in the first playoff hole.
Robert Garrigus had the chance to extend the playoff but missed a short putt after Byrd already carded a par on the hole #1. He took the loss with a grain of salt and said in the post round interview he was exhausted. He said he gained a ton of confidence to start out the year and hopefully he can take that confidence with him for the rest of the year.
On another note, my 2011 Predictions are off to a bad start. I said Graeme McDowell was not going to back up 201o with another stellar 2011. I know it’s only the first tournament, but McDowell tore up the course today and finished 3rd, with a final round 62.
It was a great tournament to start off the year, and they are off to Honolulu for the Sony Open next week.
