Sports by Brooks reported yesterday via TigerWoodsIsGod.com, the PGA Tour has announced Tiger Woods will NOT be the host of his annual tournament in the DC area. The AT&T National is a tournament benefiting The Tiger Woods Foundation. The tournament will still give the proceeds to the foundation, but only because of contract agreement running through 2014.
This is huge. It is so so interesting to me that Golf.com, ESPN.com, CBSSports.com, or any other huge sports site is not reporting this. If this is true, I have the same question for the PGA Tour as I did in a previous post with about Golf Digest suspending his instructional article.
Are Tiger Woods’ people requesting all these changes or is the PGA Tour and Golf Digest making the decisions on their own?
If Tiger and his people are making these requests to these companies, it is clearly a sign they plan on Tiger being out for a long time OR they are attempting to reduce his public exposure when he does come back in an attempt to just play golf and have no other “outside” commitments.
If these companies are making these decisions on their own, I think they are making a huge mistake. Especially the PGA Tour. If they did this and have said Tiger will not be the host, Tiger could very well say screw the PGA Tour and go play in Europe. He can win just as much money and notch just as many wins by playing on the European Tour. Then he can come to the US and play just the majors. It would be a big middle finger to the PGA Tour. The same PGA Tour who he has made so popular.
If Tiger Woods said “screw you” to the PGA Tour, the purses will automatically be cut in half and tournaments would lose sponsors. Of course this is just all speculation on my part, but I could see it happening if the PGA Tour pisses off Tiger enough.
