A few months ago, I wrote an article asking which American golfer had the best chance to become #1 if Tiger Woods continues his fall from grace. There was one person on my list that I pretty much wrote off and Steve Stricker proved me wrong today. The win today at The Memorial Tournament gave Stricker his tenth win of his career, along with $30 million in earnings. The win also catapulted him to the top ranked American golfer in the world, jumping over Phil Mickelson and Matt Kuchar to move … [Read more...]
Who Will Be The Next American to Overtake #1 Again?
When the Official World Golf Rankings are updated on Monday, the top four spots will be held by players from across the pond. Europe that is, and it's really remarkable to look at the top ten. The top five players in order go like this; Martin Kaymer, Lee Westwood, Luke Donald, and Graeme McDowell and Tiger Woods. The win by Luke Donald this weekend at the WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship and the great play by Martin Kaymer secured Europe will hold the top spots for now, with Paul Casey … [Read more...]
Jim Furyk takes home the PGA Tour Player of the Year
Only four players have been named PGA Tour Player of the Year over the last decade. On Monday, Jim Furyk was added to the list thanks to his three victories and runner-up finish on the money list. When you think about it, four different players over the last ten years is pretty special, but with a guy by the name of Tiger Woods winning seven of the last ten, it doesn't seem so special. Vijay Singh took home the honor in 2004 and Padraig Harrington won the trophy in 2008. But other than that, … [Read more...]
Europe Wins The Ryder Cup
As you can tell by the boring title, I am not too excited Europe won the Ryder Cup. I woke up again at 5:00 a.m. today and watched about an 1 1/2 hours worth of the coverage until I had to leave for my real job. Then when I got to this real job, I streamed an hour worth of it on RyderCup.com until my colleagues starting showing up and then I decided I needed to turn it off so I just hit refresh on my browser every three minutes in-between catching up on other news. So as you may be able to … [Read more...]
United States Ryder Cup Team Struggling
Ryder Cup coverage has resumed on NBC finally after another lengthy rain delay and things don't seem to be turning around for the Americans right now. They are still currently down in five matches and Woods and Stricker have already lost their match to Westwood and Donald. The matches will definetely have to finish on Monday now and Woods and Stricker need to go do something to get their games back. The U.S team is up 6 to 5 right now over the Europeans. Currently as I write this, two … [Read more...]
And The Winner Is…
The WGC Accenture Match Play Championship tees off tomorrow, and I am picking Tiger Woods to take it all... Oh wait, Tiger is still getting his life together. I will take Phil Mickelson... Oh wait, Phil is taking a vacation with his kids. So the two most popular players are not playing this week. So why watch right? WRONG!! There are still some very intriguing match ups and it should be an exciting weekend. Who do I pick to win it? Well I thought you'd never ask. Coming out of the … [Read more...]
Final Golf World Rankings for 2009
The final World Golf Rankings for 2009 were released today and there was really no surprise in the top 30. There were no changes compared to last week's rankings until you get to #38 and 39 where Graeme McDowell and Francesco Molinari swapped places. The United States has five of the top ten players in the world with Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, and Steve Stricker ranking #1-3 respectively. Jim Furyk ends the year at #6 and Kenny Perry rounds out the top ten ranked #10. Just looking at … [Read more...]
