Our fantasy golf picks take us to famed Riviera Country Club this week for the the Northern Trust Open. It’s the last event of the “west coast swing” and next week the fellas will be teeing it up in Florida.
I had a good set of horses for my fantasy picks last week at the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am. Problem is, my dumbass-self failed to make the selections on PGATour.com. Needless to say, I received a big ZERO points on the one week I made good picks.
The Course
Playing at a respectable 7,279, par-71, Riviera Country Club is loved by many players and always draws one of the best fields of the year. Hogan’s Alley, as it’s known to many, will offer a great test of golf to even the best players in the world.
Defending Champion
Bubba Watson is in the field this week as the defending champion and seems to be the favorite this week at Riviera. Last year, Bubba managed to post a 15-under score after a 70-71-64-64 week to take home the $1.2 million check.
I’m not taking Bubba this week in my foursome of fantasy golf picks but I expect Bubba will probably be somewhere lurking by the weekend.
Front9Back9 Fantasy Golf Picks
Sergio Garcia
Sergio has had a slow start to 2015. He’s not exactly been tearing it up over on the European Tour to start the year but I think getting back over here on the PGA Tour and the United States will get Sergio going. Ball striking plays a big role in winning at Riviera and Sergio is one of the best.
Bill Haas
This may be a silly pick because his wife can go into labor at anytime now and he may have to leave. Haas won this tournament back in 2012 and always plays well here. He won the Humana Challenge earlier in the year and I think Bill Haas has a great chance to hoist the trophy again.
Webb Simpson
Webb hasn’t played since his T-7 at the Humana back in January. He should be well rested and ready to go. One of the big reasons I selected Webb is because the players who are coming off long breaks tend to play well right out of the gate, like Furyk did last week at Pebble.
Robert Streb
This new daddy is leading the Tour in top-510’s this year so far, with five. His last tournament was the Waste Management Phoenix Open and he had a new baby after that event, so he’s had some time off. I’m looking for Robert to continue his great play and pick up a win very soon.
