Bubba Watson fired back-to-back 64’s on Saturday and Sunday to claim his first win since winning the 2012 Masters. It was a good win for Bubba and one that he needed badly after collapsing in the final round of the Waste Management Phoenix Open with two later bogeys. Of course, Bubba will tell you he didn’t technically “need” the win this week, but in my eyes, he definitely needed it.
Dustin Johnson tried his best to get the win this week at Riviera C.C. after firing a final round 66, but just couldn’t gain much ground with Bubba shooting 14-under on the weekend.
Bubba’s win was great and everything, but a better story might be Jason Allred, who Monday qualified for the Northern Trust Open and finished the tournament in a Tie for 3rd. That finish earned $388,600 for Allred and got him an invitation to The Honda Classic in two weeks down in Florida. The money Allred earned this week at Riviera puts him well on the way to earning $600-$700K he will need to get into the top 125 on the PGA Tour money list.
My PGA Tour fantasy picks earned me exactly jack crap this week with a combined 220 points. Well we’re on to Arizona again for the WGC Accenture Match Play event, which Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson have decided to skip, but’s that another story for later this week.
