Luke Donald has been playing some great golf this week. On Saturday, Donald started the day by taking out Ryan Moore 5 & 4. In the afternoon match, Luke took out Matt Kuchar 6 & 5. This was after beating Manassero on Friday 3 & 2, Molinari on Thursday 2 & 1 and starting the week by pounding Charley Hoffman 6 & 5. Luke Donald is clearly playing the best golf this week and the winning outcomes in his five matches so far have proved it. But on Sunday, he will be taking on the world’s new #1 player, Martin Kaymer, who also advanced to the final match.
Some believe Martin Kaymer should have been the top ranked player in the world over the last year or so, but on Monday he will officially take over the spot. Should Luke Donald win he will move up to #3 in the world, with Lee Westwood falling to #2. This means the Europeans will have the top three spots in the World Golf Rankings, and the Americans have some work to do.
So how do they match up on Sunday? Like I mentioned above, Donald has dominated his matches this week. He is also a better putter and perhaps one of the best short game players in the game. Kaymer on the other hand has the major championship and big wins. Kaymer hits it further than Donald as well which could make a difference on the long Dove Mountain course. All this may not matter though because Luke may be the one who is more rested, since he has taken care of his opponents much quicker.
It should be a great match on Sunday and let’s see if the weather will play a huge factor.
