Tiger Woods is one of the most, if not THE most, recognized athlete in the world. Along with that notoriety of being the #1 athlete in the world, comes major wealth. So what would you be willing to pay Tiger Woods to promote a product for you? Nike pays him a reported $25 million yearly to wear a swoosh on every piece of clothing he owns. Gatorade, AT&T, Tag Heuer, and Accenture have all paid him millions each year to say their product is the best.
But none of these numbers compare to a report in Arabian Business Magazine saying Tiger Woods was to be paid $55.4 million to promote Tiger Woods Dubai, a $1 billion golf resort in Dubain. The resort was complete with villas, mansions and of course palaces. The United Arab Emirates developer who was building the resort, recently scrapped teh plans because of the downturn in the economy, which brings up another question of how is the UAE broke and I am still paying $3 per gallon gas…
In the report by Arabian Business Magazine, the numbers are pretty amazing.
1.) $26,166,177 would be paid to ETW within ten days of the agreement being signed.
2.) $14,583,333 would be paid to ETW within ten days of Woods appearing for the grand opening of Tiger Woods Dubai.
The article also says Tiger would not be receiving a villa on the golf course but would receive another “sum” of $70 million would be paid as a promotional fee. The total value to Woods would have been close to $100 million when all is said and done.
No wonder reports out of Dubai this week stated Woods was trying to meet with the developers to revive the project. He is still owed a ton of money and with his sponsors dropping him left and right and having just paid for a hefty divorce and a new bachelor lair, he could probably use that $70 million left on the table.
Just one question. How much do you think it would cost to add a Front9Back9 Golf Blog logo to the side of Tiger Woods bag? Damn, I better start selling some more stuff…
