Davis Love III and Jose Maria Olazabal, two of the games most respected players have been named the 2012 Ryder Cup captains. Medinah Country Club outside of Chicago will be the setting for what is sure to be an epic event. The captain selections were really no surprise to anybody, ever since the rumors started swirling back in December that these two had already been notified they were selected.
Davis Love III, the self proclaimed “players captain” vows to stay out of the way of the 12 players who will actually be playing. Jose Maria Olazabal calls it one of his “proudest moments” in golf. Both men are no stranger to Ryder Cups. Davis Love III has played in six matches, Olazabal has played in seven. Both men are also no stranger to the winning circle, with Love III winning 20 PGA Tour events over his career along with a PGA Championship. Olazabal has won two Masters in his career.
The United States will have a lot of work to do in order to win the cup back. I hate to say it, but the Europeans have more players in the top-1o in world golf rankings than the American have right now. The Europeans will also have the motivation of Olazabal on their side, who has gone through major health problems over the last year, and they will want to play great for him. The US will have to match that intensity and heart in order to win it back in Chicago.
So who you got? I got the red, white and blue of course. But it won’t be easy. One thing I do know, I will be there for the matches in 2012.

I was very happy to hear this. I’m a huge fan of both of these players, and I’m happy to see them in the captain roles.

The Golfball Guru- Thanks for the comment. I think they will both do a great job. Medinah should be a great venue.
