The PGA Tour moves on to the Tampa Bay area for the Transitions Championship this week. The Westin Innisbrook Copperhead Course is always a favorite place to play for the pros and this week should be no different. There can only be one winner, so he will come from one of my golf picks below. Jim Furyk- The defending champion has changed putters and changed his putting stroke. Furyk hasn't played all that well so far this year but this could be the week to turn it around. To back up … [Read more...]
Front9Back9’s Golf Picks & Predictions: The Honda Classic
My fantasy golf has been horrendous this year. Currently I am sitting in 85th place in Fans of Devil Ball Fantasy Golf. The PGA Tour is moving across the country and the first stop is in Palm Beach Gardens, FL at The Honda Classic. Last Thursday rumors were swirling that Tiger Woods could possibly enter after his terrible WGC Match Play showing, but that turned out false. The tournament is right in his new backyard pretty close to his new estate in Florida. He didn't enter, citing … [Read more...]
Aaron Baddeley Fends Off Fred Couples and Vijay Singh to Win at Riviera
It’s been about a week since I last wrote anything; I have been running around like a chicken with my head cut off working on some things. I did get a chance to watch the ending of the Northern Trust Open yesterday and boy was I rooting for Fred Couples. It didn’t end up working out too well for him, but it’s good to see Aaron Baddeley back in the winner’s circle. When I turned on the Golf Channel coverage around noon on Sunday, Fred Couples was on the second hold and had just birdies #1. … [Read more...]
Front9Back9’s Golf Picks & Predictions: AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am
I'm stuck with a dilemma right now with my golf predictions for the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am. On one hand, Dustin Johnson is a two-time champion here at Pebble Beach and then played the U.S. Open pretty well right up until the weekend. On the other hand, how can I look past Phil Mickelson this week who is practically smirking at me daring me to pick him. I also said a couple days ago I was benching Phil for a bit. So what is one to do? With my "A" team pick this week, I am … [Read more...]
Jim Furyk takes home the PGA Tour Player of the Year
Only four players have been named PGA Tour Player of the Year over the last decade. On Monday, Jim Furyk was added to the list thanks to his three victories and runner-up finish on the money list. When you think about it, four different players over the last ten years is pretty special, but with a guy by the name of Tiger Woods winning seven of the last ten, it doesn't seem so special. Vijay Singh took home the honor in 2004 and Padraig Harrington won the trophy in 2008. But other than that, … [Read more...]
PGA Championship Setting Up For A Great Finish
There was no fog delay Saturday morning and it looks as if they will get getting back on schedule by the end of the day. Some of the biggest names in golf are starting to get closer to the leader, Matt Kuchar. The conditions are perfect right now. Rain overnight has softened the course even more and the wind is pretty calm right now. That can change at anytime but right now is the time for Tiger, Vijay, and Bubba Watson to get some birdies before they go out for the start of their third … [Read more...]
Camilo Villegas Playing Well Right Now
Camilo Villegas shot a cool little 67 today in the 3rd round of the Honda Classic to take a 3 shot lead over Nathan Green and Vijay Singh. I tell you one thing, Camilo is one cool cat. And ripped. Going into the thrid round Anthony Kim was in the hunt and shot a 3-over 73 and is now six shots back. I was hoping Kim would stay in contention all day but he just couldn't get anything going today. Should be a good final round tomorrow. It's also great to hear Johnny Miller and the NBC golf team … [Read more...]
