It was one year ago today. Thanksgiving 2009 at around 2:30 a.m, when the most famous sports figure in the world began his fall from grace atop golfing supremacy. Amid a leaked story by the National Enquirer about a possible affair with Rachel Uchitel, Tiger Woods crashed his Escalade into a fire hydrant and tree as he fled from his Florida mansion, bare foot and reportedly high on Ambien. I remember where I was when I found out about the crash. Sort-of like I remember where I was when the … [Read more...]
Tiger Woods is Redefining Victory
Tiger Woods is on a mission to improve himself. Last week, he went on a quasi-media blitz, where an op-ed article was released by Newsweek, he joined Mike and Mike on ESPN Radio, and decided to give Twitter a try. But is any of this helping his image? In the Newsweek article, How I’ve Redefined Victory, he said he likes giving Charlie a bath rather than chipping another bucket of balls, and making macaroni and cheese for his daughter Sam more than going out to eat. He spent two segments … [Read more...]
Jim Furyk takes home the PGA Tour Player of the Year
Only four players have been named PGA Tour Player of the Year over the last decade. On Monday, Jim Furyk was added to the list thanks to his three victories and runner-up finish on the money list. When you think about it, four different players over the last ten years is pretty special, but with a guy by the name of Tiger Woods winning seven of the last ten, it doesn't seem so special. Vijay Singh took home the honor in 2004 and Padraig Harrington won the trophy in 2008. But other than that, … [Read more...]
Tigers’ New Bachelor Lair
Apparently a hefty divorce settlement hasn't delayed the plans to build a nice little bachelor pad for the world's #2 ranked golfer. Tiger Woods is reportedly ready to move into his new bachelor pad. What a better way to celebrate the one year anniversary of the infamous Thanksgiving fire hydrant mishap, then moving into a $50 million Jupiter Island mansion? Aerial pictures of Tiger Woods new mansion have begun to surface, thanks to Jeff Lichtenstein, a Palm Beach County real estate agent … [Read more...]
Devon Does Goyco
What would you do if your 15 minutes were up and you were so desperate and were seeking to stretch out one more minute of fame? Well if you are Devon James, you find someone on the street and offer them $1,000 to act like Tiger Woods and have sex with you. Basically, do what you know best, acting like a whore. Yes.You read that right. Devon James, one of the skanks who is bitter because she didn’t get paid by Tiger Woods, reportedly recently went out and found a guy off the … [Read more...]
Tiger weighs in on raingear-gate
Add Tiger Woods to the list of people who have publicly piled on Sun Mountain in regards to the infamous rain gear malfunctions during the Ryder Cup. Tiger was doing interviews today during media day for his upcoming Chevron World Challenge when he was asked about the rain suits: One of the things, just going back to the Ryder Cup for a minute I never really got to ask you about that over there is I know Steve's been caddying since he was 12 years old. He's pretty good at keeping clubs … [Read more...]
Europe Wins The Ryder Cup
As you can tell by the boring title, I am not too excited Europe won the Ryder Cup. I woke up again at 5:00 a.m. today and watched about an 1 1/2 hours worth of the coverage until I had to leave for my real job. Then when I got to this real job, I streamed an hour worth of it on RyderCup.com until my colleagues starting showing up and then I decided I needed to turn it off so I just hit refresh on my browser every three minutes in-between catching up on other news. So as you may be able to … [Read more...]
United States Ryder Cup Team Struggling
Ryder Cup coverage has resumed on NBC finally after another lengthy rain delay and things don't seem to be turning around for the Americans right now. They are still currently down in five matches and Woods and Stricker have already lost their match to Westwood and Donald. The matches will definetely have to finish on Monday now and Woods and Stricker need to go do something to get their games back. The U.S team is up 6 to 5 right now over the Europeans. Currently as I write this, two … [Read more...]
PGA Championship Setting Up For A Great Finish
There was no fog delay Saturday morning and it looks as if they will get getting back on schedule by the end of the day. Some of the biggest names in golf are starting to get closer to the leader, Matt Kuchar. The conditions are perfect right now. Rain overnight has softened the course even more and the wind is pretty calm right now. That can change at anytime but right now is the time for Tiger, Vijay, and Bubba Watson to get some birdies before they go out for the start of their third … [Read more...]
Tiger Struggling To Find A Groove
Tiger Woods was the fourth group off on Saturday morning in the third round of the Bridgestone Invitational and again struggled to get anything going. By the time the early Golf Channel coverage started, Tiger was already finished. He again refused to talk to the media after his round. During the CBS coverage in the afternoon, they went back and showed some highlights of his round, and it was not pretty. Missed greens, missed fairways, irons 25 and 30 yards off line, chunked chips, and putts … [Read more...]
Surprise, Surprise..Tiger Commits to Bridgestone
Can you honestly say you were expecting Tiger Woods to sit out the WGC Bridgestone Invitational next week at Firestone? Well the headlines on every golf and sports website today seemed to lead with Tiger committing to the tournament. A lot of people acted surprised for some reason. Tiger rarely plays the week before a major, but next week is different. He always plays this tournament the week before the PGA Championship. And why not when you seem to own the course, right? Tiger is the … [Read more...]
Tiger Still The Favorite…With Guys That Is
Anytime I am surfing around on the internet, golf headlines always seem to catch my eye more than any other headline. When the headline involves Tiger Woods, it catches my attention even more. It has always been this way. Although I admit, it may have gotten worse since his little mishap turned PR nightmare on that infamous Thanksgiving night, but I have always enjoyed a little Tiger story. Let's face it, he became my favorite athlete when he burst on the scene and remains my favorite … [Read more...]
ESPN Low Ratings for The Open Championship
Just like I wrote yesterday, the final round of the Open Championship was an absolute bore fest. A great story, but a bore fest no less. ESPN received a preliminary rating of 2.1 for the Sunday final round, compared to a 3.8 last year. And guess what... You didn't see this headline of ESPN's website. I know. Of course they are not going to put it on their own website. I just don't care for ESPN that much for a variety of reasons. Tiger Woods was out of it early and Phil Mickelson did … [Read more...]
The Open Championship Bore Fest
Well, it's 11:22 AM CST right now. Phil Mickelson is finished for the day and Tiger Woods is already on his way back to Orlando. Rory McIlroy is putting together a good round but ESPN doesn't seem to care about that. Some guy by the name of Louis Oosthuizen is striping every drive down the middle and increasing his lead with every swing, now sitting at a comfortable 8-shots. Paul Casey is going backwards. Lee Westwood is not making a run and Martin Kaymer is just a couple under on his … [Read more...]
Didn’t I Tell You So…
Two days ago I wrote about a little pick-em game my friends and I play for all the golf major championships. Now I know it's early, but didn't I tell you... One of my picks, Rory McIlroy is leading the tournament with a sweet little 63 shot on the first day of The Open Championship. Not far behind is Tiger Woods, another one of my picks. Yes I know it is only Thursday. Yes I know I am sitting here watching the replay on ESPN and these guys are playing with no wind or rain. Things can … [Read more...]
Tiger or Daly?
While I was listening to the Dan Patrick Show this morning, he had an interesting poll that I wanted to hit on. The poll question was along the lines of who would be a better story? Tiger Woods in contention on Sunday or John Daly in contention on Sunday. Dan interviewed David Feherty and Jack Nicklaus and they both had different answers. I personally think John Daly would be a better story. I also think more people would root for John Daly. I think Daly would be a better story for a … [Read more...]
My Open Championship Picks
For about two years now, my buddies from work and I have gotten a little pool together for the four major championships each year in golf. How it works is we pick four players for the week. Scoring goes by the final score at the end of the week and whoever has the lowest score wins the pot. It's normally just $5 or $10 and the winner takes all. If any of your players misses the cut, then after Friday's round we double the score for the weekend. So I wanted to share my picks I have chosen … [Read more...]
Chip-In’s and Chunks
This is a new little feature I am going to try featuring the previous weekends good (chip-in's) and bad (chunks). If you have a nomination for either, please feel free to send an email to front9back9@gmail.com. Hope you enjoy. Chip-In's Of course I have to start off with congratulating Graeme McDowell for hanging tough and pulling out the victory in the 110th U.S. Open. He hung tough when everyone was pretty much writing him off, including me in my Sunday post. I am sure he drank … [Read more...]
Happy Fathers Day
I first want to start by saying Happy Fathers Day to my dad. A man who has always been there for me and will do anything for his family. He is truly a great man. The best memories I have with him are on the golf course and I can't wait to get over to his house today to talk about the Saturday happenings in the US Open and what we think will happen today. The best being in 2008 for Fathers Day. We were in San Diego for the U.S. Open at Torrey Pines when Tiger forced a Monday playoff with … [Read more...]
Get Your Facts Straight Tiger…
These words from the Executive Director of the USGA, David Fay, when questioned about the greens this week at the 110th U.S. Open. On Thursday, after his first round 74, during his post round interview Woods said the greens were "just awful." I saw the interview live during NBC coverage yesterday with Jimmy Roberts and Fay just flat out called Tiger Woods out. Making a distinct comparison between Phil and Tiger, Fay said: I think two players used the word awful on Thursday. Phil … [Read more...]
