The 2016 Valero Texas Open at TPC San Antonio is just five days away. The deadline for players to commit to the tournament has passed and the field is set. Some big name PGA Tour players are coming down next week to take on the difficult AT&T Oaks Course, but the biggest Texas golf star at the moment is MIA. In years past, the golf course has played firm and fast, with the South Texas wind playing a big factor in scoring. This year is shaping up to be quite different. We're expecting … [Read more...]

PGA Tour Golf Tournaments With the PGA Tour season finally getting back under way next week at Kapalua for the Hyundai Tournament of Champions, I thought it would be the perfect time to list out the my top nine PGA Tour golf tournaments I would like to go see live. Each year, I tell myself I want to travel and see a different PGA Tour tournament in person. Over the years, I've compiled these golf tournaments that would be at the top of the list. While there's over 50 golf tournaments … [Read more...]
Peter Malnati: PGA Tour Winner and Insightful Golf Blogger
It's not uncommon for PGA Tour players to have a personal website. Hell, most of them have the URL embroidered on their golf bags these days. On these websites, you'll find the basic stuff; like what's in the bag, their upcoming schedule and logos of sponsors with a write up of how great the product or service is. I think everyone would agree having an online presence is pretty important in today's world. Even PGA Tour pros know the importance, or at least their agent or PR firm knows. On … [Read more...]

Tournament officials announced on Friday all tickets have been officially sold out, making this the quickest sell out in event history. Shriners Hospitals for Children Open Draft Kings Fantasy Golf Picks
Last week when I made my fantasy golf picks, I had mentioned I wanted to track my bankroll during the season and see what I win or lose during the 2015-2016 PGA Tour season. I started with a $250 bankroll and will not spend more then 10% of my bankroll each week on lineups. My initial plans call for 1-2 different lineups spread through several different leagues. I'm still rolling with that plan as of now but could make changes to it later depending on how my averages are doing. At the … [Read more...]

Tiger Woods commits to Frys.com Open
Tiger Woods has made it official. He will be playing the Frys.com Open at Silverado Resort and Spa in Napa, CA to kickoff the 2015-2016 PGA Tour season. The decision was not necessarily a surprise, as the PGA Tour had granted special permission for Woods to play in the Turkish Airlines Open in 2013. In exchange for what's known as a Conflicting Event Release to play in Europe, Tiger agreed to play in the Frys.com Open at some point in the future. This will be the first time he's been 100% … [Read more...]

Conway Farms Golf Club in Lake Forest, IL will play host to the BMW Championship next week as the third leg of the FedEx Cup playoffs tees it up outside Chicago. The golf tournament has been played in the Chicago area for many years but recently the trend has moved towards hosting the tournament in other cities but keeping Chicago in the rotation every other year. We see this trend continue as the venues were recently announced through 2019. Next year, the BMW Championship will head back to … [Read more...]

It’s Official: Austin, Texas Will Play Host to WGC Dell Match Play
Welcome, y'all, to Austin, Texas! Over this past weekend, news broke of the World Golf Championships Match Play event moving to Austin in 2016 with Dell Computers reportedly signing on to become the title sponsor. If you didn't believe the news at that time, maybe you'll believe it now. Dell and the International Federation of PGA Tours announced a multi-year deal today to bring the WGC Dell Match Play to Austin through at least 2019, meaning this event will likely stay in Austin for the … [Read more...]
The 2014-2015 PGA Tour Wraparound Season is Still Dumb
So here we are. The 2013-2014 PGA Tour is in the books and Billy Horschel is your TOUR Champion and FedEx Cup Champion. Although Billy-Ho had a wonderful last three weeks of the season, there's no question in my mind that Rory McIlroy is still your PGA Tour Player of the Year. With two major victories and a WGC title, the #1 player in the world deserves the title. So what's in store for the 2014-2015 wraparound season? Well, in all honesty, the wraparound season is plain dumb. I … [Read more...]

Let us know below or let us know on Twitter @Front9Back9. Another FedEx Cup playoff tournament has come and gone. We’re on to Atlanta and the TOUR Championship, where $10 million is up for grabs and nobody cares about the winner unless the winner is also the FedEx Cup winner. This past weekend had several great chip-ins, but also … [Read more...]
Phil Mickelson is a Quitter and We Should Stop Rooting for Him
Phil Mickelson is a quitter. Bottom line. And all the people who are fooled by his "thumbs-up" and "smiling good-nature" should really step back and reevaluate why you even root for this guy. He's not the person you really think he is. Phil withdrew from the BMW Championship after his piss-poor 76 on Friday. No injury. No emergency. Just a WD because his primary goal right now is the Ryder Cup. He even said as much in his statement released Saturday morning: My primary goal is to rest … [Read more...]
Does the FedEx Cup Seem Like it Will Be Boring This Year?
Is it just me or does the PGA Tour FedEx Cup playoffs have a different feel this year? What I mean by a "different feel" is that nobody seems to give a damn about it. Looking at the top-1o right now as we're half-way through the Wyndham Championship, let's hope we can get some fireworks over the next four weeks: 1.) Rory McIlroy - Hopefully we'll see Rory play all four events, but most likely we'll see him play 2-3 events. He'll probably win it easily this year. 2.) Jimmy Walker - … [Read more...]
So Dustin Johnson is a Coke Head… (Reportedly)
Come on, don't lie. When you first heard about Dustin Johnson's self-described "leave of absence" from professional golf for the remainder of 2014, what did you really think? Did you really think he was taking time off on his own to "improve my mental health and well-being?" Or, did the "better equipped to fulfill my potential and become a consistent champion" get you? If you're like me, the first thing that went through your mind was "He got popped for something." So it comes as no … [Read more...]
Is There a Better Sunday in all of Golf?
Ah yes. Sunday at The Masters. Is there a better Sunday in all of golf? The azaleas are in full bloom, the golf course is perfect, and CBS Sports has somehow figured a way to put a microphone on the birds. There's currently only 13 players under-par going into the final round. All these guys are within 5-shots of the lead, which means anything can happen today and the green jacket is up for grabs to anyone who wants to shoot a good round today. Leading the way is Jordan Spieth and … [Read more...]
My Solution for PGA Tour Pros Withdrawing in the Middle of a Round
I was on the 12th hole yesterday with my group of Trevor Immelman, Will MacKenzie and Josh Teater when I heard over the radio Phil Mickelson had withdrawn from the Valero Texas Open. Something about a pulled oblique muscle was the initial reason being talked about over the radio. Sure enough, word spread quickly around the course because over the next two holes, I had at least five spectators ask me if it was true Phil had withdrawn. In all honestly, Phil was setting up this WD perfectly … [Read more...]
Chip-In’s & Chunks: The World’s Next #5, Hadley Gets Two and Tiger Finishes

Front9Back9 Golf Picks: WGC Accenture Match Play Championship
It’s time for a little tune-up before March Madness gets up and running in a few weeks here. I need to get the rust off so I can win the Warren Buffet Billion Dollar Bracket. (That is not a typo; Buffet’s giving away $1,000,000,000 for a perfect March Madness bracket!) Anyways, the WGC Accenture Match Play kicks off tomorrow at Dove Mountain. No word on whether the course will be under snow by the first tee time. (That is not another typo; it has snowed a couple times in previous years at … [Read more...]
Early Player Commitments to Valero Texas Open
I’ll be volunteering at the Valero Texas Open again this year after having a blast last year walking inside the ropes with the NBC Golf team. This year, Greg Norman Productions has taken over the tournament management and they have promised big changes to the Valero Texas Open. I have gone to the tournament for just about every year I can remember. It moved over to TPC San Antonio Oaks Course four years ago and top players seem to enjoy the course. It’s much easier to walk then the Resort … [Read more...]
