In the latest episode of The Golf Nut Podcast we'll recap the RBC Heritage Classic and touch on Jim Furyk taking home his first PGA Tour victory since 2010. As you might know, Furyk has come under criticism the last couple years for not closing out 54-hole leads. He didn't have to hold onto the lead this year because he shot a sweet little 8-under 63 in the final round to get into a playoff against Kevin Kisner. On the second playoff hole, Furyk sank a 18-20 foot birdie to secure the … [Read more...]
Valero Texas Open Announces Big Name Player Commitments
The Valero Texas Open is just about a month away and already some big name players have committed to teeing it up in my hometown this year. First, Phil Mickelson has decided to give TPC San Antonio another chance after pulling a muscle last year and withdrawing from the tournament in the third round. I've lost a lot of respect of Phil over the course of 2014. He didn't play very well throughout the year and his bad season was capped off with a horrible Ryder Cup experience where he let the … [Read more...]
Front9Back9’s Golf Picks & Predictions: The Heritage
Typically The Heritage is played the week after The Masters, which would have been last week. Instead, the Valero Texas Open was moved to the week after Augusta and Hilton Head was moved to this week. With most of the big guys taking the week off last week, they will be back in action this week. Jim Furyk- The defending champ will be looking to … [Read more...]

Tiger, Phil, Jim… Take a hike
Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson and Jim Furyk, please take a hike. It's 2011 and you are no longer needed. That is the message PGA Tour Commissioner Tim Finchem conveyed in his final teleconference of 2010. Well to be fair, that wasn't exactly what he said. It was more along the lines of: I've never in my tenure seen so much buzz and interest about rookies and young players creating exciting performances. Finchem continues to say the buzz has led the PGA Tour to believe they need to focus … [Read more...]
Jim Furyk and Rickie Fowler take home PGA Tour awards
Congratulations to Jim Furyk and Rickie Fowler for taking home some hardware today. Jim Furyk was voted PGA Tour Player of the Year by the players and Rickie Fowler was voted Rookie of the Year. No real surprise with Rickie Fowler. He is the youngest player since Tiger Woods to win the Rookie of the Year. Tiger was 20 years old in 1996 when he took home the award and Fowler is 21. He finished 32nd in the Fed Ex rankings and ended the year ranked 25th in the World Golf Rankings after … [Read more...]
Golf Picks & Predictions: PGA Tour Player of the Year
On Tuesday, the PGA Tour released the finalists for the 2010 Player of the Year honors. While I agree with four-of-the-five nominees, there is one I don't think should be on the list. The five players listed have never been named as the Player of the Year, all because of some dude named Tiger, who has won the award ten times in the last 13 years. So while all five of these players are great, there is one player who deserves it most. And the nominees are: Ernie Els- Two wins in 2010, … [Read more...]
Jim Furyk takes home the PGA Tour Player of the Year
Only four players have been named PGA Tour Player of the Year over the last decade. On Monday, Jim Furyk was added to the list thanks to his three victories and runner-up finish on the money list. When you think about it, four different players over the last ten years is pretty special, but with a guy by the name of Tiger Woods winning seven of the last ten, it doesn't seem so special. Vijay Singh took home the honor in 2004 and Padraig Harrington won the trophy in 2008. But other than that, … [Read more...]
Top 5 Ryder Cup Captain Picks For Medinah In 2012
With the 2010 Ryder Cup at Celtic Manor still somewhat fresh in our minds, I thought I would write a few names who would be my top 5 picks for the possible captain selection for the 2010 Ryder Cup at Medinah Country Club outside Chicago. The PGA of America is responsible for picking the captain, which will probably take place in December 2010. The PGA of America has a few guidelines to narrow down the names of potential captain selections, which include having won a PGA Championship or at … [Read more...]
Fed Ex Cup Showdown
So I was reading an article on PGATOUR.com trying to explain the numerous scenarios that could play out today in the final round of the Tour Championship and who could possibly be crowned the next Fed Ex Cup Champion. Halfway through the article I gave up and skimmed the rest of the article. There are so many different scenarios and I am just going to let the TV telecast explain it to me during the round tomorrow. It sure is setting up to be a great finish though. It doesn't look like Phil … [Read more...]
PGA Championship Setting Up For A Great Finish
There was no fog delay Saturday morning and it looks as if they will get getting back on schedule by the end of the day. Some of the biggest names in golf are starting to get closer to the leader, Matt Kuchar. The conditions are perfect right now. Rain overnight has softened the course even more and the wind is pretty calm right now. That can change at anytime but right now is the time for Tiger, Vijay, and Bubba Watson to get some birdies before they go out for the start of their third … [Read more...]
Yahoo Fantasy Golf Update
So after last week at the Transitions Championship, I moved up two spots to #18 in the Fans of Devil Ball Yahoo Fantasy golf league. Thanks to a great win by Jim Furyk. I had Furyk in my B group so that got me some great points. And why is Jim Furyk in the B group? The #6 ranked player in the world and he still is in the B group. Maybe they will re-position the players at the start of the spring season. Either way, I was hoping to move up closer to the top 10 so I would have a good shot … [Read more...]
Jim Furyk Wins the Transitions Championship
While a majority of golf fans were watching Tiger Woods and his two rapid fire interview sessions with ESPN and The Golf Channel Sunday evening, Jim Furyk was finishing out his final round at the Transitions Championship to claim his first victory in 32 months. And by the sound of his press conference after the tournament, he didn't really care what people were watching, or what they would be writing about the next day: You know what? Tomorrow, the paper is going to read that I won the golf … [Read more...]
