Being born and raised in the great state of Texas, I am always intrigued when magazines and websites come out with their best rated courses each year. I tend to be more interested in the courses that are closer to San Antonio, but I also like to compare the ones I have played across the rest of the state as well and make a mental note of the remaining courses on the list so I can add them to my “to-play” list. A few weeks ago, Golfweek … [Read more...]
Is Tiger Woods on the Cusp of Another Multi-Year Run?

For more than a year now, me and a couple buddies have done nothing but speculate on when Tiger Woods would win again. In the end, nobody was anywhere near to being correct. But each time we had our little discussion, we all pretty much agreed on one thing – Once Tiger Woods got back into the winners circle, it could be the start of another dominating run for the man who will soon be back to #1 in the world. So after his first win today … [Read more...]
Tiger Woods takes down Zach Johnson to win Chevron World Challenge

I just had that feeling, you know? Like the feeling you had when Tiger Woods was stepping up to putts at Augusta, or Bay Hill, or Torrey Pines so many years ago. The only problem, he hadn't done anything meaningful in golf since 2009. To be exact, it was 749 days and 26 starts, but I still had that feeling. After watching Tiger Woods play pretty well in Australia during the Australian Open and then even better the following week at The … [Read more...]
Caddy survey reveals PGA Tour players cheat…Surprised?

When I first read this article in the January issue of Golf Magazine, I really wasn't too surprised to find more than half of the 50 caddies surveyed have witnessed some form of cheating during a PGA Tour event. Think about it. With the amount of money on the line and the amount of prestige that comes along with winning on the PGA Tour, it's human nature for these players to try and gain even the smallest competitive advantage. The caddies … [Read more...]
Tiger Off to Another Strong Start
I recently put out a guest blogger request on Twitter and I am happy to say I have found a good article for the first ever guest post on Front9Back9 Golf Blog. This comes from Cory Walton in San Antonio, who is currently trying to finish strong towards his electrical engineering degree from University of Texas San Antonio. Cory is a huge sports fan and you can read his blog at From The Cheap Seats. Tiger Woods holds on to a three stoke … [Read more...]
Tiger Woods clinches Presidents Cup victory for American team, Is he back?

The questions have already started to swirl. I saw them on Twitter last night while Johnny Miller and crew talked about it on air during the final day of the Presidents Cup. Is Tiger Woods back? I even wrote about it last week during the Australian Open after Tiger Woods fired a 5-under 67 to take the second round lead. In the final day of the 2011 Presidents Cup at Royal Melbourne, Tiger Woods closed out Aaron Baddeley 4 and 3 to clinch … [Read more...]
Let’s See. What Have I Missed?
Let’s See. What Have I Missed? I have been down and out for a couple months now. Seventy-seven days to be exact. July 3, 2011 was my last post and frankly I am pretty upset with myself. I worked hard on this blog since 2009 and 11 weeks of not posting anything is just horrendous. It’s not like I was sick or injured. It’s not like I was working my “real” job 16 hours a day and only had time to sleep. It’s just … [Read more...]
San Antonio Golf Course Owner Turns to YouTube to Save His Course
My buddy from work sent me this story from a local news station here in San Antonio last night. WOAI had this on their newscast last night and it's a pretty interesting approach to raise money for a golf course. Will it work? Watch the video and tell me what you think. Send money at your own risk. Northcliffe Golf Course … [Read more...]
San Antonio Golf: The Palmer Course at Westin La Cantera

On Saturday, I had the pleasure of playing The Palmer Course at La Cantera in celebration of the 10th anniversary of the golf course. It’s hard to believe The Palmer Course has been around for ten years. I can remember when it opened and I could not wait to get out and play it. It has really become a staple of San Antonio golf and has always been one of my favorite golf courses in San Antonio. I was invited to play The Palmer Course … [Read more...]
Brendan Steele Wins Valero Texas Open

In 2010, TPC San Antonio ranked as the sixth hardest golf course played on the PGA Tour. In 2011, when all is said and done, the golf course this year may go down as THE toughest course on TOUR. The TPC San Antonio Oaks course is just flat-out tough. On top of the challenging greens and strong winds that blew all week, there is no wonder why 8-under par won this tournament. This is a far cry from the 18, 20, and lower scores that these … [Read more...]
I’m Not Here To Pile On, But Kevin Na Shot a 15 Today…On One Hole

Look, I'm not going to sit here and pile on Kevin Na. To say he had a rough go around at the 9th hole today during the Valero Texas Open is an understatement. Now I am not a professional golfer, but I can say pretty confidently I have never written down a 15 on the scorecard. I can remember a 10 before, but never a 15. To be fair, I am sure most golfers you see at the local muni each weekend should have numerous 15's on their cards, but … [Read more...]
Tiger Woods Brings the Buzz Back to Augusta

There’s still a lot of golf to be played and I think most people are taking the “let’s wait and see if he can carry it to the weekend” approach, but the one thing I know for sure is golf needs Tiger Woods near the top of the leaderboard and the buzz was back in full gear yesterday. I was out playing golf in the afternoon yesterday and around 4:30 PM I started receiving text messages from buddies asking me if I was watching Tigers … [Read more...]
