Valero Texas Open Volunteer Experience: Day 4
Today was the final round of the Valero Texas Open which means it was also my final day of volunteering for the tournament. I'm happy to say the tournament today announced live on air it reached it's charitable goal of $100 million since the exception of the event. On the Day 1 post below, I laid out why I enjoy doing this for four day in the sun and one of the reasons was the money that goes to local charities. I'm glad they made their goal and I feel like I contributed just a bit. Valero … [Read more...]

Valero Texas Open Volunteer Experience: Day 2
Day 2 of my volunteering at the Valero Texas Open turned out to be quite uneventful, as the group I was paired with was way back when the day started and never made a real run up the leaderboard. In fact, the entire afternoon wave of players really got the short end of the stick. I was assigned to the group of Camilo Villegas and Charles Howell III, a two some who started the day at 8-over and 7-over, respectively. I was doing the same thing as I was doing on Thursday, walking with the … [Read more...]
Valero Texas Open Volunteer Experience: Day 1
Yesterday marked the start of my third year volunteering at the Valero Texas Open. I've been with the NCB/Golf Channel Broadcast committee for three years now and it's a really cool gig. While there are certainly some downsides, I think the positives certainly outweigh the negatives. I think you have to enjoy it especially since you're spending 40+ hours at the golf course over four days. What You Get With Volunteering at Valero Texas Open It costs $50 to volunteer, which gets you several … [Read more...]

The 2015 Valero Texas Open field is set and some of the best players in the world will be in San Antonio as the tournament kicks off in my hometown. I couldn't be more stoked to be out all four days again this year. I will be volunteering again this year all four days starting on Thursday. I will be on the NBC/Golf Channel Broadcast team as I have done the last three years. I'm curious to see what the chatter among our team is this year. I have heard from people who have done it longer … [Read more...]

Everybody who is serious about golf fantasizes about playing on the best courses the world has to offer. San Antonio Golf: TPC San Antonio Oaks Course
Yesterday I got the chance to tee it up out at TPC San Antonio and play the Oaks Course. If you don't know, this is the course the pros play during the Valero Texas Open. The course is tough and when the wind blows, it gets really tough. Yesterday was one of those tough days. One of the main reasons I volunteer at the Valero Texas Open each year is for this round of golf. It's only $25 to play and I brought my dad for $99. We split the green fees so it came out to about $65 each. In all … [Read more...]

If either one of these aspirations is on your bucket list, you might be in luck. Golfweek has recently released its annual ranking of best residential golf courses in America. My Valero Texas Open Volunteering Experience
It’s Sunday evening and the last four days have been long - I’m sunburned and my feet and calves hurt. If you’re anything like my wife though you probably don’t want to hear my complaining – she claims it’s all self-inflicted since I didn’t use sun block on Friday and I eat too much and don’t work out enough. If you didn't know, the Valero Texas Open has just completed here in San Antonio and Martin Laird pulled off an unexpected victory and stamped his ticket to Augusta. Me on the other … [Read more...]

San Antonio Golf: Caurso Golf Center
What is so difficult about greeting a customer as they walk through door? Is it really that much of an inconvenience? I hate to write things like this and act like I am all high-and-mighty just because I have this golf blog, but sometimes it just irritates me to no end. But then again, I guess I shouldn't be surprised with any of this since it's common at this place. So today I went to Caruso Golf Center to work on my short game. Caruso Golf Center is less than 5 minutes from my house and … [Read more...]
San Antonio Golf: The Repubilc Golf Club
I recently started a new job and during my first week on the job I got word from a couple people that my new company had a large golf association available to employees and retirees. So guess what I did my first week of work? Yes, I joined the USAA Eagle Golf Club. It's open to current employees and retirees, but you can also bring guests to play as well, which is a nice perk. They hold a golf tournament once a month with some special events mixed in throughout the year as well. All … [Read more...]
Volunteering at the U.S. Women’s Mid-Amateur Championship
This weekend, I had the chance to volunteer at the U.S. Women’s Mid-Amateur Championship held here in San Antonio at Briggs Ranch Golf Club. I have to complete 45 hours of volunteer service to fulfill my degree requirements, so I thought why not get 12 hours out of the way volunteering doing something involved with the game of golf! But after spending the last two days out at Briggs Ranch as a forecaddie, I think I might have found much more than getting 12 hours of volunteer work towards my … [Read more...]
San Antonio Golf: Mission Del Lago settles court battle with gun range
A little more than six months after a San Antonio golfer was shot in the chest while playing the 12th hole at Mission del Lago, a court battle between the San Antonio golf course and a nearby gun range has finally ended. The two sides, err, the gun range got bullied into making modifications and changes to its rifle section in order to reopen for business. The rifle range section of A Place to Shoot has been closed since a court injunction forced the business to close it in May. In my … [Read more...]
