Have you ever wandered what Will Ferrell does to gain an edge on the golf course? Yeah, well me neither. But are you now curious to see how Will takes out his opponents? Will Ferrell's Style Tips | Videos | Golf.com Yes, in order to get the edge, he makes sure to wear some sort of pattern on his clothes to confuse the competition. The pattern has to be so crazy it turns hypnotic so when they look at you they pass out. Then you can take their wallets and get out of town. Ferrell is … [Read more...]
Tiger Still The Favorite…With Guys That Is
Anytime I am surfing around on the internet, golf headlines always seem to catch my eye more than any other headline. When the headline involves Tiger Woods, it catches my attention even more. It has always been this way. Although I admit, it may have gotten worse since his little mishap turned PR nightmare on that infamous Thanksgiving night, but I have always enjoyed a little Tiger story. Let's face it, he became my favorite athlete when he burst on the scene and remains my favorite … [Read more...]
ESPN Low Ratings for The Open Championship
Just like I wrote yesterday, the final round of the Open Championship was an absolute bore fest. A great story, but a bore fest no less. ESPN received a preliminary rating of 2.1 for the Sunday final round, compared to a 3.8 last year. And guess what... You didn't see this headline of ESPN's website. I know. Of course they are not going to put it on their own website. I just don't care for ESPN that much for a variety of reasons. Tiger Woods was out of it early and Phil Mickelson did … [Read more...]
Tony Romo Life After Football
Tony Romo, the QB of my Dallas Cowboys, finished in a 4-way tie for second place this weekend at the American Century Celebrity Golf Championship, a made-for-TV event full of superstar athletes and celebrities. Romo finished tied for second with John Elway, John Smoltz, and actor Jack Wagner. Another former NFL QB, Billy Joe Tolliver won the event for the third time. Now, I am glad Romo got his summer of golfing out of the way. He has played in a couple U.S. Open qualifying events, along … [Read more...]
The Open Championship Bore Fest
Well, it's 11:22 AM CST right now. Phil Mickelson is finished for the day and Tiger Woods is already on his way back to Orlando. Rory McIlroy is putting together a good round but ESPN doesn't seem to care about that. Some guy by the name of Louis Oosthuizen is striping every drive down the middle and increasing his lead with every swing, now sitting at a comfortable 8-shots. Paul Casey is going backwards. Lee Westwood is not making a run and Martin Kaymer is just a couple under on his … [Read more...]
Didn’t I Tell You So…
Two days ago I wrote about a little pick-em game my friends and I play for all the golf major championships. Now I know it's early, but didn't I tell you... One of my picks, Rory McIlroy is leading the tournament with a sweet little 63 shot on the first day of The Open Championship. Not far behind is Tiger Woods, another one of my picks. Yes I know it is only Thursday. Yes I know I am sitting here watching the replay on ESPN and these guys are playing with no wind or rain. Things can … [Read more...]
Tiger or Daly?
While I was listening to the Dan Patrick Show this morning, he had an interesting poll that I wanted to hit on. The poll question was along the lines of who would be a better story? Tiger Woods in contention on Sunday or John Daly in contention on Sunday. Dan interviewed David Feherty and Jack Nicklaus and they both had different answers. I personally think John Daly would be a better story. I also think more people would root for John Daly. I think Daly would be a better story for a … [Read more...]
My Open Championship Picks
For about two years now, my buddies from work and I have gotten a little pool together for the four major championships each year in golf. How it works is we pick four players for the week. Scoring goes by the final score at the end of the week and whoever has the lowest score wins the pot. It's normally just $5 or $10 and the winner takes all. If any of your players misses the cut, then after Friday's round we double the score for the weekend. So I wanted to share my picks I have chosen … [Read more...]
“Honey,” “I’m Going to Play Golf..Be Back In 13 hours.”
Have you ever played 36 holes of golf in one day? If so, then you know how draining a full day on the golf course could be. But how do you think you will feel after playing 100 holes of golf in one day? Yes, I said 100 holes of golf. Well a man from Pennsylvania recently completed 100 holes of golf in a little under 13 hours. And the reason he played this many holes? Charity. Doug Oathout completed 100 holes at Crab Apple Ridge Golf Course in Erie, PA. He hit his first tee shot at 6:30 … [Read more...]
Finally!! Bubba Gets His First Win
Bubba Watson finally gets his first PGA Tour win. On the second playoff hole, after a near hole out on the first playoff hole, then a clutch putt by Scott Verplank to extend the playoff, Bubba Watson knocked in a 4 footer for par to bring home the win. I have been rooting for Bubba for years and he has had great chances to win but could not just close it out in other tournaments. Corey Pavin made a great effort with a sand shot on the first playoff hold and Scott Verplank missed an 8 footer … [Read more...]
Chip-In’s and Chunks
This is a new little feature I am going to try featuring the previous weekends good (chip-in's) and bad (chunks). If you have a nomination for either, please feel free to send an email to front9back9@gmail.com. Hope you enjoy. Chip-In's Of course I have to start off with congratulating Graeme McDowell for hanging tough and pulling out the victory in the 110th U.S. Open. He hung tough when everyone was pretty much writing him off, including me in my Sunday post. I am sure he drank … [Read more...]
Titleist Introduces New Woods
I received an email from Team Titleist today about the new Titleist 910 metal woods. If you haven't heard of Team Titleist, it's just a way of Titleist giving you supposedly "exclusive" news and information available first to Team Titleist members only. It also gives you access to possibly getting a chance to be on test panels and invitation only fittings and other perks. I don't know how "exclusive" it is and I have never been invited to a special fitting, but either way, you can sign up for … [Read more...]
Happy Fathers Day
I first want to start by saying Happy Fathers Day to my dad. A man who has always been there for me and will do anything for his family. He is truly a great man. The best memories I have with him are on the golf course and I can't wait to get over to his house today to talk about the Saturday happenings in the US Open and what we think will happen today. The best being in 2008 for Fathers Day. We were in San Diego for the U.S. Open at Torrey Pines when Tiger forced a Monday playoff with … [Read more...]
Get Your Facts Straight Tiger…
These words from the Executive Director of the USGA, David Fay, when questioned about the greens this week at the 110th U.S. Open. On Thursday, after his first round 74, during his post round interview Woods said the greens were "just awful." I saw the interview live during NBC coverage yesterday with Jimmy Roberts and Fay just flat out called Tiger Woods out. Making a distinct comparison between Phil and Tiger, Fay said: I think two players used the word awful on Thursday. Phil … [Read more...]
Who Will Take The Lead Into Sunday?
As NBC coverage fires up and Dan Hicks and Johnny Miller take over for the next 6 1/2 hours, I cannot help but look at the scores on the course right now and wander if someone in the afternoon groups can go low and take the lead going into Sunday. Tom Watson and Davis Love are having great rounds so far so the low scores are out there. Tiger is teeing off in less than 5 minutes. He received a big cheer at #1. Phil is just arriving to the course. So what do I think will happen? I … [Read more...]
Thank You For Making This Country Great!! And Congrats to Zach Johnson
I would first like to say Happy Memorial Day to everyone out there. Also a big THANK YOU to all the service men and women who have made the ultimate sacrifice to allow me and my family and friends to live freely in this great country. THANK YOU!! Congratulations to Zach Johnson for winning the Crown Plaza Invitational at Colonial Country Club. Shooting two sweet back-to-back 64's on Saturday and Sunday propelled him to his 7th PGA Tour victory. Brian Davis, yes the same Brian Davis who … [Read more...]
Tiger Woods Out Having Fun
It was just about five months ago that Tiger Woods smashed a fire hydrant and slammed his Escalade into a tree. Then came the 15 or 100 or how-ever-many women he allegedly had affairs with. Then came the sex rehab stent. Then the bogus press conference. Then the real press conference. All this leading up to his return to competitive golf at the Masters two weeks ago. Now the last few days have been filled with commitments to the U.S Open, Quail Hollow, The Players, and his own former … [Read more...]
Brian Davis Calls Penalty On Himself
As Jim Furyk was finishing out his putt in sudden death of the Verizon Heritage Classic, Jim Nantz said it best; "A lot of people will become fans of Brian Davis." And he is absolutely dead on in saying that. I am a fan of Brian Davis now that he called a penalty on himself in sudden death with his first PGA Tour victory on the line. How many people will actually do something like that? Golf is a game of honor and sportsmanship and Brian Davis shows this. Sure golfers call penalties on … [Read more...]
Tiger Losing Control
I am sitting here watching the Masters right now, and it seems Tiger Woods is starting to lose control of his emotions. The announcers are all noticing it right now and Peter Kostis just mentioned he has noticed Tiger is starting to walk a little faster and hurry his shots a little more. It seems as though Tiger has had complete control of every part of this game over the first two days. He has now just bogeyed the seventh hole for his third bogey in the last five holes. Right when TV … [Read more...]
I Wish This Skank Would Just Go Away
This skank needs to go away. Really, she does. Yes I am talking about the porn star who alleges an affair with Tiger Woods and is on some kind of obsessed mission to get back at him. OK great, you had an affair with Tiger Woods. A LOT of women did. YOU ARE NOT SPECIAL. I don't care if you have a website and you plan on posting more emails or text messages or pictures or whatever else you are going to do. You are irrelevant and you need to go away. People are moving on from the fact … [Read more...]
