The Golf Nut Podcast 004: RBC Heritage Recap, Zurich Preview and TIBA Putt Review
In the latest episode of The Golf Nut Podcast we'll recap the RBC Heritage Classic and touch on Jim Furyk taking home his first PGA Tour victory since 2010. As you might know, Furyk has come under criticism the last couple years for not closing out 54-hole leads. He didn't have to hold onto the lead this year because he shot a sweet little 8-under 63 in the final round to get into a playoff against Kevin Kisner. On the second playoff hole, Furyk sank a 18-20 foot birdie to secure the … [Read more...]
Fantasy Golf Picks and Tournament Preview: RBC Heritage
I got a choice to make this week. Do I dare take Jordan Spieth in my fantasy golf picks this week at the RBC Heritage coming off a Masters victory and a media whirlwind tour over the last two days? Will he be ready to go come Thursday or will he be hungover from all the interviews he's done since winning The Masters last Sunday. The Course Harbour Town Golf Links is a rather short course for PGA Tour standards. Stretching to 7,101 yards, this par-71 course requires precise golf shots. Jack … [Read more...]

2015 Masters Recap: Jordan Spieth Wins in Dominating Fashion
I don't know about you, but when I was 21 years old, all I cared about was which bar had the best happy hour specials and how many ladies were going to be there. I certainly wasn't flushing long-irons into Augusta National par-5's and draining clutch par putts to hold onto a lead at The Masters. What Jordan Spieth did over the last four days at The Masters was truly something special. At 21 years old, he becomes the second youngest player in Masters history to add a Green Jacket to his … [Read more...]
TIBA Putt Training Aid Can Help You Sink More Putts
I've been working with the TIBA Putt training aid for about three weeks now and I have to admit, I think this may be helping me sink more putts. My putting stroke is really feeling much more solid lately and while I am not ready to claim this is going to be my savior, I do feel this putting aid will eventually help me cut several strokes off my game. The TIBA putting aid is designed to help you strike the ball square at impact and get the ball rolling on the correct path right off the putter … [Read more...]
The Masters is Upon Us and It’s Going to Be a Good Weekend
It's one of the best weekends of golf throughout the entire year, if not THE best. The best players in the world will be teeing it up tomorrow morning in the 79th edition of The Masters. There's just too many storylines to hit on them all, so here's the couple that come to mind real quick: Tiger Woods is making his first start since his WD at Torrey Pines after just 11 holes. He showed up to Augusta smiling and jamming out on the chipping green on Monday. Since then, he's hugged … [Read more...]
Front9Back9 Fantasy Golf Picks: The Masters Edition
Some call Augusta National Golf Club the holy grail of golf. Tiger Woods said in his press conference that this tournament means so much to him that he plans on playing in the par-3 contest on Wednesday, something he hasn't done in 10+ years. There's not much more I can say to set this golf tournament up. My fantasy golf picks this week will be made via Draft Kings. They are offering a chance at a $1 million grand prize to the person who picks the perfect lineup this week and comes out on … [Read more...]
The Golf Nut Podcast 002: JB Wins, Masters Week and Masters Picks
We've had some big news since the last time we talked during the first episode of The Golf Nut Podcast last Monday. Tiger Woods announced last Friday that he will in fact be playing in the 2015 Masters and the Twitter world went crazy! He then showed up to Augusta late Monday to big hugs and good golf; supposedly! Today, we'll talk about that big announcement that came down last Friday and we'll discuss why it's good for golf and what I expect to see from Tiger Woods at The … [Read more...]

Golf Blog Foursome is a weekly feature offering up some of the best golf blog posts from this past week. There's hundreds of great golf blogs and here's four of the best articles I've read from the past week. GeoffShackelford.com: Augusta National Makes Special Preparations for Tiger Woods What's better than a couple good April's Fools jokes on the first day of April? In the golf blogging world, you can rest assured there was a fair share. Geoff Shackelford actually wrote a couple spoof … [Read more...]
Front9Back9 Fantasy Golf Picks: Shell Houston Open
It's the final tuneup before the year's first major and there's some big names showing up at Golf Club of Houston this year to get ready for The Masters. This is the final tournament to get an automatic bid into The Masters and those guys not in will be certainly letting it all hang out. Jimmy Walker withdrew today and while I don't think it's a very good look, at least he did it two days prior to the tournament to give enough time for an alternate to get ready. Coming off the win at the … [Read more...]
8 Takeaways From Watching a PGA Tour Event Inside The Ropes
This last weekend I had the chance to spend four days at a PGA Tour event inside the ropes. My time volunteering at the Valero Texas Open was a really cool experience and it's something I always look forward to each year. In my last post about volunteering at TPC San Antonio, I wanted to share with you eight takeaways from watching a PGA Tour tournament inside the ropes. #1: These guys are great scramblers. "Drive for show, putt for dough." You know the saying and as golfers we all … [Read more...]

Valero Texas Open Volunteer Experience: Day 4
Today was the final round of the Valero Texas Open which means it was also my final day of volunteering for the tournament. I'm happy to say the tournament today announced live on air it reached it's charitable goal of $100 million since the exception of the event. On the Day 1 post below, I laid out why I enjoy doing this for four day in the sun and one of the reasons was the money that goes to local charities. I'm glad they made their goal and I feel like I contributed just a bit. Valero … [Read more...]

Valero Texas Open Volunteer Experience: Day 3
Today is the final round of the Valero Texas Open, which means it's also the final day to finish out my four day volunteering commitment. Valero Texas Open Volunteer Experience: Day 2
Day 2 of my volunteering at the Valero Texas Open turned out to be quite uneventful, as the group I was paired with was way back when the day started and never made a real run up the leaderboard. In fact, the entire afternoon wave of players really got the short end of the stick. I was assigned to the group of Camilo Villegas and Charles Howell III, a two some who started the day at 8-over and 7-over, respectively. I was doing the same thing as I was doing on Thursday, walking with the … [Read more...]
Valero Texas Open Volunteer Experience: Day 1
Yesterday marked the start of my third year volunteering at the Valero Texas Open. I've been with the NCB/Golf Channel Broadcast committee for three years now and it's a really cool gig. While there are certainly some downsides, I think the positives certainly outweigh the negatives. I think you have to enjoy it especially since you're spending 40+ hours at the golf course over four days. What You Get With Volunteering at Valero Texas Open It costs $50 to volunteer, which gets you several … [Read more...]
