The Champions Tour has finalized plans to create a three-event playoff series starting in 2016 to settle the season-long Charles Schwab Cup.
The newly formed Powershares QQQ Championship will be played in Los Angeles to kick off the Charles Schwab Cup Playoffs for the 50 and over golf tour. Seventy-two players will compete at a yet-to-be-determined golf course in 2016. From there, the top 54 will move onto the Dominion Charity Classic in Richmond, Virginia and compete for their share of the $2 million purse.
The field will be cut down even further with the top 36 heading to the Charles Schwab Cup Championship where a champion will be crowned in the season-long points race.
Bernhard Langer won the 2015 Charles Schwab Cup even after losing the golf tournament in a playoff to Billy Andrade on Sunday at the Charles Schwab Cup Championship in Scottsdale, Arizona. Langer already had the season-long prize wrapped up heading into the playoff on Sunday thanks to a year that saw him win five times on the Champions Tour.
