Tiger Woods has made it official. He will be playing the Frys.com Open at Silverado Resort and Spa in Napa, CA to kickoff the 2015-2016 PGA Tour season.
The decision was not necessarily a surprise, as the PGA Tour had granted special permission for Woods to play in the Turkish Airlines Open in 2013. In exchange for what’s known as a Conflicting Event Release to play in Europe, Tiger agreed to play in the Frys.com Open at some point in the future. This will be the first time he’s been 100% healthy since receiving that exemption and will fulfill that promise coming up in October.
When the Frys.com Open tees off on October 15 it will mark just over two months since Tiger would have teed it up in a competitive golf tournament. He made a run at the Wyndham Championship to try and get the last minute invitation into the FedEx Cup playoffs but came up short.
Rory McIlroy will also be playing in the event held at the Silverado Resort and Spa in Napa, CA. McIlroy also was granted the special exemption from the PGA Tour in 2013 and will compete alongside Woods this year.
