Conway Farms Golf Club in Lake Forest, IL will play host to the BMW Championship next week as the third leg of the FedEx Cup playoffs tees it up outside Chicago. The golf tournament has been played in the Chicago area for many years but recently the trend has moved towards hosting the tournament in other cities but keeping Chicago in the rotation every other year.
We see this trend continue as the venues were recently announced through 2019. Next year, the BMW Championship will head back to Crooked Stick Golf Club in Carmel, IN. It hosted this event back in 2012 when Rory McIlroy won the tournament.
The tournament will be back to the Chicago area in 2017 and Conway Farms will again play host. In 2018, the tournament heads east to Aronimink Golf Club in Newton Square, PA. Aronimink has never hosted the BMW Chammpionship but has hosted regular season PGA Tour events when Tiger Woods brought the Quicken Loans National to Pennsylvania in 2010 and 2011.
The BMW Championship will make it’s way back to Chicago in 2019 when the players will get the chance to play one of Chicago’s most prestigious golf courses in Medinah Country Club. Medinah has hosted all sorts of major golf events, with the Ryder Cup being contested there most recently in 2012. The golf course has also seen three U.S. Opens and two PGA Championships as well.
The BMW Championship is the third event in the four tournament FedEx Cup Playoffs. The top-70 in FedEx Cup points get into the BMW and the field is then reduced to 30 for the Tour Championship in Atlanta.
