It’s one of the best weekends of golf throughout the entire year, if not THE best. The best players in the world will be teeing it up tomorrow morning in the 79th edition of The Masters.
There’s just too many storylines to hit on them all, so here’s the couple that come to mind real quick:
- Tiger Woods is making his first start since his WD at Torrey Pines after just 11 holes. He showed up to Augusta smiling and jamming out on the chipping green on Monday. Since then, he’s hugged players and played in the par-3 contest with his kids at his side. Is Tiger Woods back? Who knows. But he appears to have turned over a new leaf and we’ll have to wait to see how this plays out.
- Rory McIlroy is playing for the career Grand Slam, at the age of 25. If anyone can do this it’s Rory. He’s struggled at Augusta in years past and looks to beat those demons this week. This kid absolutely has the game to win this tournament and if he’s on then it’s hard to beat him.
- Bubba Watson looks to defend his title this week and notch his third Masters victory in the last four years. It’s tough to do, as only three other players have done it; Jack Nicklaus, Nick Faldo and Tiger Woods. I don’t think Bubba can get it done this week but it sure will be fun to watch. Bubba bombs his drives and shapes it better then anyone else and Augusta is the perfect place to show that off.
- Jordan Spieth is looking to become the second youngest player to win The Masters, behind Tiger Woods. Last year Spieth had a great shot in his debut tournament but couldn’t get it done down the stretch. He’s arguably the hottest player on the PGA Tour right now but that might not mean anything at Augusta.
There’s so many other storylines that are going to play out over the weekend. It’s going to be a tremendous weekend and I can’t wait to get it started tomorrow.
Before I go here, my official pick for the 2015 Masters is Jimmy Walker, the local favorite who I believe has the complete game at this time to get it done.
