The PGA Tour is in my hometown this week for he Valero Texas Open and I am ready to get out there and volunteer for my fourth year in a row. John Peterson tweeted out earlier today that TPC San Antonio is in the best shape out of any course they’ve played all year on Tour. That says A LOT after playing the likes of Pebble Beach, Riviera and Torrey Pines earlier this year.
With the tournament in town I am going to do something CRAZY with my fantasy golf picks this week! I am going to take all Texans. Yep, that’s how I roll. I am a proud Texan myself and I love me some Texas golf.
The Course
As you see above from the John Peterson tweet, the course is clearly in fantastic shape. The several times I have played at TPC San Antonio over the year I have never walked away disappointed. This Greg Norman designed course can be stretched to a whopping 7,435 and plays to a par-72. The final winning score last year ended up at 8-under. It’s tough, and Thursday will play even tougher because we’re expected to have a small cold front moving through, so the winds will be coming from the North.
Watch out for higher scores on Thursday, I predict you will not see anyone above 2-under.
Defending Champion
Steven Bowditch won the Valero Texas Open to lock in his first victory on the PGA Tour. The Australian shot a final round 77 last year to win. That’s right, a 76 in the final round to win! How crazy is that?
Bowditch will be back in the field this week and defending his title.
Front9Back9 Fantasy Golf Picks
Jimmy Walker
While Jimmy wasn’t born in Texas, he got here as quick as he could. He lives just 30-minutes or so from TPC San Antonio and will be sleeping in his own bed. I would love to see Jimmy Walker take home the victory this week as it would be awesome to do in his hometown. He can also be the first one of the 19 winners on Tour this year to win for the second time.
Jordan Spieth
Jordan was born in Dallas, went to University of Texas and still calls Texas home. He also can be the first player to win their second tournament of the year. I thing Jordan will have a great showing this week as he gets ready for The Masters in just two weeks.
John Peterson
Peterson has become my favorite player to follow on Twitter. He’s pretty funny. I quoted his Tweet above. He was born in Fort Worth and still calls it home. He left for some time to go to college at LSU, but I can forgive him for that. I think John is ready for a win on the PGA Tour and what better week to do it and get in The Masters then right down I-35 at Valero Texas Open!
Ryan Palmer
Born in Amarillo, TX this Texan is ready to win in his home state. He went to college at Texas A&M so Ryan Palmer wraps up my fantasy golf picks for the week. He’s had several weeks off now and should be ready to go. Look for Palmer to have a good week in San Antonio.
