The 2015 Valero Texas Open field is set and some of the best players in the world will be in San Antonio as the tournament kicks off in my hometown. I couldn’t be more stoked to be out all four days again this year. I will be volunteering again this year all four days starting on Thursday. I will be on the NBC/Golf Channel Broadcast team as I have done the last three years.
I’m curious to see what the chatter among our team is this year. I have heard from people who have done it longer than me that if CBS Golf takes over TV coverage, they do things much differently then NBC, so I want to see what is going to happen once the WGC Dell Match Play takes this date next year. Will the Valero get moved to sometime in May when CBS coverage is in full swing?
I’ll keep you updated with the chatter I hear throughout the week but let’s get into who will be in San Antonio and how this Valero Texas Open field has panned out.
First, Phil Mickelson will be back again this year after his WD last year. I thought he’d never come back but after taking off this past week at Bay Hill I imagine Phil will be getting his game ready for Augusta in two weeks.
Jordan Speith is also in the field this week after taking last week off at Bay Hill as well. Spieth is coming off a playoff win at Valspar and looks poised to continue sharpening his game before The Masters.
Another top ten player in the world, Dustin Johnson, will be in San Antonio after taking off Bay Hill as well. DJ has been playing great so far after coming back after a six month “break” and will also be looking to get his game in shape for Augusta.
Other big names in the field include Graeme DeLaet, Jason Dufner, Zach Johnson, Mat Kuchar, Jim Furyk and Matt Every.
