Alright folks, my fantasy golf picks have really been sucking lately. It’s time to get this going in the right direction. Last week, I ended up with 243 points, good enough to actually fall in the league standings to 523rd place. The leader has 3,778 total points, while I only have 1,389. What does this mean? Well frankly I need all four of my players to win.!.!.!.!
Okay so all four can’t win, but I do need to at least try and pick the winner each week going forward so I can pick up the much needed 500 fantasy golf points for the winner.
This week the PGA Tour is in Phoenix at the Waste Management Phoenix Open. The TPC Scottsdale Stadium Course is the host which includes the famed par-3 #16th where they pack in 20,000+ fans. We’ll see how it goes this year since the PGA Tour supposedly put out a memo a few weeks ago asking players not to throw stuff into the stands.
The Course
As mentioned above, TPC Scottsdale plays host to the Waste Management this week. The course plays to a par-71 stretching it out to just about 7,266 yards. Tom Weisskopf recently renovated the course which is open to the public throughout the year.
Tiger Woods told the gathered media today for his press conference the course was in great shape and “springy”, whatever the hell that means.
Defending Champion
Ah yes, Kevin Stadler won here last year with a four day total of 16-under to pick up his first PGA Tour win. Stadler has not had a very good year so far. Three weeks ago at the Hyundai Tournament of Champions, he W/D after shooting 74-73 in the first two rounds. He won’t be defending this week as he has some wrist injury going on.
Front9Back9 Fantasy Golf Picks
I’m entered in the PGATour.com Expert league so each week I make my picks in that group. It’s public and if you’re wanting to get in on it head on over there. I need to get some fantasy points badly this week, so let’s do this:
Here are my fantasy golf picks this week for the Waste Management Phoenix Open:
Phil Mickelson
Okay so the fans love Phil in Arizona. (Where do they not?) He played college golf at Arizona State so expect the rowdy ASU students at the 16th to be rooting for Phil big time. Last week at Humana, Phil was tied for first in birdies and top ten in driving. I think he’s ready to go for 2015 and Phil can easily win this week.
Hunter Mahan
Hunter Mahan has two career wins in the desert. He hasn’t played since Maui at the Hyundai Tournament of Champions so he should be well rested and ready to go. he’s playing the first two rounds with Mickelson and Fowler so those three should feed off each other and shoot good rounds.
Justin Thomas
This dude is my horse right now. He is going to win very soon on the PGA Tour in his rookie season. When he does, I will have him picked while everyone else will pass. That’s when I pick up my points. Thomas has had 3 top-tens this year and if he can have another good showing, he’ll get me some points.
Jordan Spieth
It’s hard to believe Jordan Spieth has never played at TPC Scottsdale in the Waste Management. This will be his first time competing here and he’s coming off two wins already in late 2014, at the Hero World Challenge and the Australian Open. He hasn’t played since then so he’s ready, I know it.
Front9Back9 Golf Blog on YouTube
Just like last week, I’ve made my video fantasy golf picks as well to coincide with the blog post. Make sure to subscribe to my channel and let me know on Twitter @Front9Back9 what you think. I also need to know your picks. Let me know!
Happy golfing!
