Is it just me or does the PGA Tour FedEx Cup playoffs have a different feel this year? What I mean by a “different feel” is that nobody seems to give a damn about it.
Looking at the top-1o right now as we’re half-way through the Wyndham Championship, let’s hope we can get some fireworks over the next four weeks:
1.) Rory McIlroy – Hopefully we’ll see Rory play all four events, but most likely we’ll see him play 2-3 events. He’ll probably win it easily this year.
2.) Jimmy Walker – My hometown boy from Boerne, TX hasn’t won since Pebble Beach back in February, his third win of 2013 – 2014 wraparound PGA Tour season. He held the lead all year in the FedEx until Rory lost his mind over the summer and overtook the lead. Jimmy Walker winning the FedEx would be bad-ass.
3.) Bubba Watson – I just hope it rains during one of these events so Bubba can melt down and blame his bad drives on water on the driver face. Bubba will not win.
4.) Matt Kuchar – I have no clue to when Kooch will be back. He WD from the PGA Championship with a bad back. Who knows.
5.) Jim Furyk – Now this guy has a legitimate chance again this year. It will be his second FedEx Cup after winning it in 2010.
6.) Dustin Johnson – Well, Dustin Johnson took a leave of absence to recover from a cocaine habit, supposedly. Nobody really knows though. Don’t count him in .
7.) Sergio Garcia – Now Sergio winning the FedEx Cup would be cool. For some odd reason, I have gotten this soft-side for Sergio lately. I want to see him win, although he seems to choke a lot of tournaments away.
8.) Jordan Spieth – A Texan who I can root for. I don’t think he has enough to get it done, but he’s one of my favorites.
9.) Patrick Reed – Haven’t heard anything from this guy since he proclaimed he’s a top-5 player back in March. Although he did make headlines this week because his hot wife is back on the bag.
10.) Zach Johnson – Zach and Jim Furyk are always hanging around. Although he has never taken home the FedEx Cup, he has a great shot this year.
At the end of the day, I have three favorites I will be watching as we head into Barclay’s next week.
- Jimmy Walker
- Jordan Spieth
- Rickie Fowler
I actually think Rickie Fowler will take it. He’s currently sitting in 15th place. If he can continue his great play in these big events coming up, he has a great shot.
