Ah yes, it’s that time of the year. The azaleas are blooming, the birds are chirping, and Tiger Woods will miss his first Masters in 20 years while nursing a back issue. It’s Masters Thursday and Arnie, Jack and Gary will be hitting the ceremonial first tee shot and then we can finally get into some real golf action. Frankly, I am tired of the hype already. Let’s just get to playing some golf.
The “experts” say this is the most wide open Masters ever. I guess because Tiger Woods is not playing, anyone can win it. The weather is shaping up to be wonderful and the golf course is going to play firm and fast. So who will win? Keep reading and I will tell you all you need to know below.
Matt Kuchar
Kuchar has been hanging around the last group on Sunday the last two weeks in Texas. Problem is, he should have won both tournaments but has ended up blowing chances down the stretch. Kuchar is missing one thing from his resume and The Masters will be a major addition.
Jason Day
His thumb worries me. He’s been in Augusta for well over a week working on his game and testing his thumb. He says it’s fine and it’s The Masters so he’ll play. If it was a regular weekly event, he surely wouldn’t be playing. Can an Aussie go back-to-back?
Sergio Garcia
Sergio Garcia is a head case. There’s no denying that. But it seems as though he’s finally started to turn a corner the last year and start playing some great golf. Garcia needs a major championship, as he is one of the best players without one on his list of accolades. Sergio is a fantastic ball striker and has the length to beat Augusta. But can he putt good enough all four days?
Dustin Johnson
Another player who is on my list of “best players to never win a major.” Dustin has been so close in other majors but just can’t get over that hump. He’s played great all year and picking up a Masters would be a perfect addition to an already stellar year.
In the end, I am picking Matt Kuchar. I just think it’s time for Koooch to get it done. What do you think? Let us know below or hit us up on Twitter @Front9Back9.
