I’ve been playing hooky today from work and with the cold weather down here in San Antonio today I have nothing better to do then check out what’s happening on Twitter. The Valero Texas Open is coming up here in a few weeks and today on Twitter they have announced two more additions to the field.
Yep, that’s right. Zach Johnson is scheduled to play again this year in the Valero Texas Open. That’s awesome and gives San Antonio two of the top 10 world ranked players so far. Sergio Garcia has already committed and is currently the 9th ranked player in the world. Matt Kurchar is also coming back to San Antonio but he dropped out of the top-10 recently and currently sits at 11, which means a good showing from Matt in Miami this week could put him back in the top-10.
Another announcement from Valero Texas Open today was Ryan Moore, who is ranked #31 in the World right now.
Another rumor I saw on Twitter earlier was from two golf writers who say Peter Uihlein and Brooks Koepka have accepted sponsor’s invites to the tournament, although there has been no official Tweet from @ValeroTXOpen at the time of this writing.
But the big news I am following is the possibility of Tiger coming to San Antonio. I know it’s a huge long-shot. But as we all know already, Tiger Woods is old and his body is breaking down. He WD’d from The Honda Classic last week and we’re still not sure if he’ll be teeing it up at Trump Doral this week. If not, the speculation is he might need to add one more even before The Masters. He doesn’t like playing the week before Augusta, which might put the Shell Houston Open out of contention. He’s playing Bay Hill in two weeks and then could possibly add San Antonio, which would be an absolute circus here in San Antonio!
I’ll keep you updated with any new announcements over the next couple weeks!
