Tiger Woods is going for a record 9th tournament win at Torrey Pines this week. His playing partner on the other hand, is trying for only his second PGA Tour victory. While the two are years apart in wins and age, apparently playing alongside the number one player in the world doesn’t phase Jordan Spieth.
Playing the much easier North Course at Torrey Pines, Spieth came out and blisterd the course firing a 9-under 63 to take a one shot lead at the Farmers Insurance Open. Tiger Woods though, appears to be a bit rusty from traveling the world and watching his skiing girlfriend not qualify for the U.S Winter Olympics.
Tiger Woods is tied for 50th place after a 72-71 in his first two rounds. It’s gonna take two hot rounds this weekend for Tiger to even sniff the first page of the leaderboard. All the experience at Torrey Pines over the years is not going to help him if he can’t birdie any of the par-5’s, something he has never done before but managed to make no birdies on the par-5’s Thursday or Friday.
So who am I rooting for as we head into the weekend? Well it would be nice to see Jordan lead the way and win a big event like the Farmers. Yes he is a Texan and I did pick him for one of my PGA Tour Fantasy picks this week, so those two things make him my favorite.
It should be a fun weekend and I should find some time to tune in. Do you have a favorite? Let us know on Twitter @Front9Back9.
