If you’ve been anxiously waiting for Tiger Woods to address the media on Brandel Chamblee calling him a cheater, well, your day has finally come. Tiger is over in China where he is playing in some useless match against Rory McIlroy when someone asked him his thoughts on Brandel so elegantly stating that Tiger was “a little cavalier with the rules” this past year.
In true Tiger fashion, he really didn’t say much of anything meaningful unless you take “the next step is up to the Golf Channel” as a subtle threat towards the GC to get rid of this guy or else.
I am of the opinion that Brandel Chamblee’s days at GC are numbered and he will begin to see a lot less TV time on broadcasts in the near future. In fact, it actually wouldn’t surprise me if Brandel is out of a job soon.
Why do I say this? Well it’s simple. The Golf Channel does not want to lose access to Tiger Woods. Calling an athlete a cheater is probably the biggest no-no in professional sports. Being a former professional golfer, Brandel should know this. Whether you love or hate Tiger Woods and think he might have gotten preferential treatment on rulings, calling a guy a cheater like Chamblee did on Golf Channel is the biggest kick in the nuts to any guy.
And if you’re Tiger Woods, quite possibly one of the most sought after athletes, you and your agent are behind the scenes threatening Golf Channel to get rid of Brandel or lose all access. So the question will be whether Golf Channel is going to take Tiger’s subtle threat seriously.
Is Tiger really that powerful anymore? I think he is. Especially as Tiger continues to move towards Jack Nicklaus’ major championship record. How would Golf Channel fare if Tiger breaks Jack’s record and they get any interviews from Tiger? Would Tiger do that? Would Tiger make that threat?
He seems like the kind of guy who hold grudges and would take a kick to the nuts to the extreme. I think Brandel’s days on Golf Channel are numbered. It’s just a personal thought, but I’d like to know what you think. Let me know below or hit me up on Twitter @Front9Back9.
