Okay, so he doesn’t actually announce his picks until Tuesday morning, but I decided to make it easy for Davis and announce my selections for the United States team now. If he follows Front9Back9, which I am sure he does, then my picks should help him sleep a little better tonight because these four players will help ensure the Ryder Cup won’t be leaving the United States.
Dustin Johnson – Dustin has been playing great golf lately, with three top-10 finishes in his last five tournaments. He’s currently tied for third thru 11 holes in his third round at the Deutsche Bank Championship. After winning the Fed Ex St. Jude earlier this season combined with his hot play as of late, Dustin should be a no brainer for a captain’s pick.
Brandt Snedeker – This will be Snedeker’s first Ryder Cup, but with all the veteran experience on the team I think he will be fine. He is currently tied for 8th in the Deutsche Bank Championship after a 6-under par 65 in the third round. If Brandt can put together a good round on Monday, I think you will hear his name being called on Tuesday morning. Snedeker will bring a solid putting game to Medinah and everyone knows it comes down to making some putts.
Jim Furyk – Guts and grind is all you need to know about Furyk. Along with the fact he has seven previous Ryder Cup appearances should be all that’s needed to make him a captain’s pick. I think Furyk, along with my last choice are the two players who are guarantees.
Steve Stricker – Steve is my second guaranteed captain’s pick. Tiger Woods and Steve Stricker make great partners, with that team going 4-0 in the 2009 President’s Cup, so look to have those two teamed up in this year’s Ryder Cup. This will be his third appearance in the Ryder Cup so the experience and leadership will be a big help in Chicago.
