Typically The Heritage is played the week after The Masters, which would have been last week. Instead, the Valero Texas Open was moved to the week after Augusta and Hilton Head was moved to this week. With most of the big guys taking the week off last week, they will be back in action this week. Jim Furyk- The defending champ will be looking to … [Read more...]

Brendan Steele Wins Valero Texas Open
In 2010, TPC San Antonio ranked as the sixth hardest golf course played on the PGA Tour. In 2011, when all is said and done, the golf course this year may go down as THE toughest course on TOUR. The TPC San Antonio Oaks course is just flat-out tough. On top of the challenging greens and strong winds that blew all week, there is no wonder why 8-under par won this tournament. This is a far cry from the 18, 20, and lower scores that these pros shot at LaCantera before the tournament moved to … [Read more...]
I’m Not Here To Pile On, But Kevin Na Shot a 15 Today…On One Hole
Look, I'm not going to sit here and pile on Kevin Na. To say he had a rough go around at the 9th hole today during the Valero Texas Open is an understatement. Now I am not a professional golfer, but I can say pretty confidently I have never written down a 15 on the scorecard. I can remember a 10 before, but never a 15. To be fair, I am sure most golfers you see at the local muni each weekend should have numerous 15's on their cards, but end up writing down only a snowman. The 9th hole at … [Read more...]
Front9Back9’s Golf Picks & Predictions: Valero Texas Open
The PGA Tour moves to my hometown this week and the TPC San Antonio will be the home of the Valero Texas Open. We have five players who finished in the top 10 at The Masters and another two that finished in the top 20. For my picks this week I am going to play off the momentum of Augusta. Geoff Ogilvy- Finished in a T-4 at The Masters and has been playing pretty good leading up to last week. I am backing up Ogilvy with Charley Hoffman. Bo Van Pelt and Angel Cabrera- This is Cabrera's … [Read more...]
Tiger Woods Brings the Buzz Back to Augusta
There’s still a lot of golf to be played and I think most people are taking the “let’s wait and see if he can carry it to the weekend” approach, but the one thing I know for sure is golf needs Tiger Woods near the top of the leaderboard and the buzz was back in full gear yesterday. I was out playing golf in the afternoon yesterday and around 4:30 PM I started receiving text messages from buddies asking me if I was watching Tigers run. When I got in the truck to head home I called my dad who … [Read more...]
Special Discount From GolfClubs.com for Front9Back9 Readers
Most golfers are familiar with the big box golf retailers across the country. Places like Edwin Watts and Golf Galaxy offer huge retail locations with the largest selection of golf equipment along with indoor hitting bays to demo the equipment. I have a Golf Galaxy five minutes away from me in San Antonio and probably go in there a few times a month. But what if I told you I have a deal to offer you that could save you some money on your next purchase. GolfClubs.com is a small golf … [Read more...]
Front9Back9’s Golf Picks & Predictions: The Masters
If my fiancé wants something done this weekend, well it’s going to be slow going. If someone calls to go play golf, it will probably be the only time I will say no. The only thing I wish more is I was in Augusta watching the tournament live. I’m not so I have to resort to watching it in HD. Oh well, here are my picks for the 75th Masters. Tiger Woods- Who knows what Tiger is going to do at Augusta this week. For some reason I just can’t seem to pick against him, especially this week. … [Read more...]
Packed Leaderboard, Big Names Head Into Final Round in Houston
Phil Mickelson likes to play the week before The Masters so he can practice hitting the shots he will use at Augusta next week. Coming into this week he said he didn't know how well he would contend in the Shell Houston Open because the course was not set up to play the "Augusta" type shots. So much for that thought process I guess. Mickelson's 63 tied the course record and put him in a tie at the top of the leaderboard with Scott Verplank. The final round is shaping up to be a great … [Read more...]
