The Shell Houston Open starts off the Spring session of Yahoo Fantasy Golf, and I plan on winning it. I finished in 70th place in Fans of Devil Ball for the winter session. My picks are going to be better this time around, and I will lead from start to finish. Some players use this week at the Shell Houston Open as a tune-up for The Masters next week, while some actually play to win. Phil Mickelson is one of the guys who is really not interested in playing to win, he is just more worried about playing shots that are going to fit at Augusta. That’s why I am not picking Phil Mickelson this week, and that is exactly why I should pick Phil Mickelson this week. Are you confused yet? Well so am I, here are my picks for the Shell Houston Open.
Ernie Els– It would be nice to see Ernie play well going into Augusta, and if he can win in Houston that would put him as one of the favorites for next week. He may end up being one of the guys more interested in working on his Augusta shot shapes rather than winning so we will see. Lee Westwood is already one of the favorites for The Masters, and he will back up Ernie.
Steve Elkington and Chad Campbell– These two Texans should have a good showing this week in Houston, and I have a strong feeling hometown guy Elkington will make a good run. Slow player Ben Crane and another South African Retief Goosen are my “C” player backups.
Fred Couples– Freddy is another hometown player who I expect to make a good run by Sunday. A top-10 finish at the Northern Trust is about all Freddy has done this year on the PGA Tour. Ryan Palmer will back up Freddy just in case he implodes.
