Mark Wilson made a great par save on the 17th hole in the final round of the Sony Open to stay one shot up. Then after a few adjustments in the earlier holes, he hit driver in the fairway on the 18th and then 3-wood in the fairway again to leave a simple chip up and one part birdie to earn the victory. His 3-under round today was good enough for his third PGA Tour victory.
Tim Clark had a great final round and finished in a tie for 2nd place with Steve Marino. Matt Kuchar also had another great finish with a tie for 5th.
Jimmy Walker, who is a hometown guy here in the San Antonio area, finished in fourth place. I am happy to Walker playing well. He had a good showing last year with his best finish on the PGA Tour in the Valero Texas Open and ended the year with an injury. But it looks like he is back to full strength and hopefully he will have a great year.
The win will get Mark Wilson in The Masters and the U.S. Open this year, and an entry into next year’s Hyundai Tournament of Champions.
Oh, you want to know how I did in fantasy this week? Matt Kuchars’ strong finish propelled me into a tie for 40th place. Good move up the leaderboard.
Now we are on to the circus known as the Bob Hope…
