With 2011 less than ten hours away and the Hyundai Tournament of Champions less than a week away, I think it is a good time to make my predictions for the 2011 PGA Tour golf season. It will be fun to see how my predictions pan out at the end of 2011.
So here we go:
1.) Tiger Woods will win five times in 2011, including two major championships. Crazy talk? Maybe.. But I think Tiger Woods has put 2010 behind him, and I think he is poised for a huge breakout. This could be the best sports comeback story in history. He will win the Masters and U.S. Open in 2011 along with three other tournaments.
2.) Graeme McDowell will fizzle out. McDowell had a great 2010 and is reportedly planning on playing quite a bit on the PGA Tour in 2011. But golfers have breakout years all the time and never live up to the same expectations. I don’t think McDowell will have any wins in 2011 on the PGA Tour.
3.) Anthony Kim will continue to struggle in 2011. This is the prediction I hope I am wrong on. One of the young stars of the future just two years ago after the 2008 Ryder Cup, Anthony Kim has done nothing since. A wrist injury kept him down most of last year and when he returned, reports of partying all night in Vegas and poor play hampered his comeback. I think the poor play will continue and Kim will fall out of the spotlight.
4.) Dustin Johnson will get his major championship. After the meltdown in the U.S. Open at Pebble Beach and Bunker-gate at Whilstling Straits, I think Dustin Johnson is one of only a few players on tour who can comeback from two horrific finishes and still make a name for himself. I already picked Tiger Woods to win The Masters and U.S. Open in 2011, and I think Dustin Johnson will win at Atlantic Athletic Club at the 93rd PGA Championship.
5.) Phil Mickelson will go winless. Nobody can fault Phil Mickelson for his poor play after his Masters victory last year. His wife and mother are battling breast cancer, and he is fighting a form of arthritis. I personally think golf is the last thing on Phil Mickelsons’ mind these days, and who came blame him.. Golf is probably a way for him to get away, and the natural skill he has will allow him to contend in events each year, but I don’t think Phil will have any wins in 2011.

I predict Tiger will win and win big in 2011.He will win 4-5 tournaments including a Major. As for most of my friends and coworkers in Sydney we are not interested in watching Golf unless Tiger is in the field.Derrick Burton lives in Sydney,N.S. and plays golf out of Seaview N. Sydney.
