According to a source close to the decision, Davis Love III has been named the captain of the 2012 United State Ryder Cup team. The Golf Channel first reported the story and the official announcement is not expected until sometime the first of the year. The move really comes as no surprise, and Love III has been the overall favorite by many people, including me back in October.
Davis Love III served as a co-captain to Corey Pavin in Wales, when the U.S. team lost the cup to Europe. So there will be nothing buy high expectations and pressure when the Ryder Cup returns to the United States in 2012 at Medinah Country Club.
Love has played in six matches throughout his career with a record of 9-12-5. The last time he was apart of a winning team was 1999, at Brookline.
I think this is a great pick for the United States team. Davis Love III is very well respected among his peers and has been an active participant in many of the committees for the PGA Tour. He has a calm demeanor on the outside but a burning fire inside that I think will help him in 2012.
On another note, Jose Maria Olazabal is expected to named the captain of the European Team. Olazabal has had numerous health issues over the last year or so and if he is picked as the captain, the United States better bring their A-games.
