Jim Furyk and Rickie Fowler take home PGA Tour awards

Congratulations to Jim Furyk and Rickie Fowler for taking home some hardware today.  Jim Furyk was voted PGA Tour Player of the Year by the players and Rickie Fowler was voted Rookie of the Year.

No real surprise with Rickie Fowler.  He is the youngest player since Tiger Woods to win the Rookie of the Year.  Tiger was 20 years old in 1996 when he took home the award and Fowler is 21.  He finished 32nd in the Fed Ex rankings and ended the year ranked 25th in the World Golf Rankings after starting the year at the Sony Open no. 249.  He didn’t have any wins this year but was clearly the best rookie all year.  I’m sure the wins will come soon enough.

Jim Furyk picking up the PGA Tour Player of the Year was not a too big surprise, but I thought Matt Kuchar would win it because of his first place finish on the money list and best scoring average all year.  But the three wins by Jim Furyk were the difference in the end.  Furyk also won the Fed Ex Cup and finished second on the PGA Tour money list.

Let’s now hope Rickie will cut his hair… And stop wearing ALL orange.
