Well the closest I got last week with my picks for the Frys.com Open was Rickie Folwer finishing in 4th place. I had Rocco Mediate as my dark horse but decided to go with John Daly instead… OK, just kidding. I didn’t even take a look at Rocco but congrats on his win last week. Now this week should be fun. Just Timberlake Shriners Hospitals for Children Open. Say that three times fast…
Hunter Mahan– Hunter felt like he lost the Ryder Cup for the U.S. In his first tournament back since, Mahan has a chance to show everyone he is a top notch player and get over the defeat in the Ryder Cup.
Rickie Fowler– Rickie needs a win. Not because he is trying to keep his card but because of the hype surrounding him. He is yet to win all year and could soon become the best player with no wins.
Nick Watney– Another top 30 player the current money list, Watney has yet to win this year as well. He recently said you have judge each year by victories and feels disappointed he has not won yet, despite having $2.5 million in winnings this year so far.
Davis Love III– My 2012 pick for the Ryder Cup Captain, Davis is my dark horse this week. He has had a solid year currently sitting at #55 on the money list. Look for Davis to show up all these young bucks in the field this week and teach them a thing or two about winning in Vegas.

Rickie is due and it’s in his backyard. Watney makes lots of birdies which is good for this type of course. No so sure about DL III making enough birdies. Mahan hasn’t played since Ryder Cup so he might not get going til it’s to late.
A guy like Graham DeLaet who makes a lot of birdies could fit the trend of first time winner as well as Alex Prugh. Wouldn’t it be crazy if Fredrik Jacobson finally won on the PGA Tour.

I think Rickie needs a win more than anyone in the field. He will go into next year labeled as one of the best players without a victory and that tends to put more pressure on these guys with that kind of label.
