It has been almost 24 hours since Tiger Woods made his statement to the media and the world. The statement was carried live on all the major news networks, The Golf Channel, ESPN, and streamed live across the internet. ESPN Radio here in San Antonio along with our other sports station, Ticket 760, had the statement live as well. I imagine that was the case across the nation as well. Sports Center this morning had pictures from Miami to Stockholm to Thailand showing the press conference. This was one of the most, if not the most, anticipated statement from a public figure in recent memory.
I personally thought Tiger Woods came across sincere. The look on someone’s face tells a lot about their feelings. Tiger’s look seemed embarrassed and upset. That is nobody’s fault but his own. I have always said he owes me nothing. I don’t need an apology from Tiger Woods and I think a lot of people feel the same way. I like how Tiger said he felt “entitled” and that “money and fame” made him feel like he could get away with anything. I like how he apologized to his sponsors and I especially liked the fact he apologized to the parents and families who have kids who look up to him. Tiger made his point. He seemed to get extremely agitated and angry when talking about the allegations his wife hit him that night. And the fact that these gossip rags are publishing the place his kids go to school. That stuff is wrong on all angles, but that’s what those POS do for a buck.
People have ripped Tiger since the statement, and people have supported him. PGA Tour pros have supported him and I am sure PGA Tour pros are going to still rip him. It didn’t matter what Tiger Woods would have done yesterday. People will rip him and people will support him. If the reports I have read are true, Step 9 of 12 in a 12 step process is to make amends with the people you have hurt, then this is a great start. Now he can go back to therapy like he said yesterady, and fully complete it and come out in a few weeks a better person and ready to play golf.
Everyone needs to remember Tiger Woods did nothing illegal. He didn’t kill anyone. He didn’t break any laws. So the things he did are private and should be between his family.
I just want to see Tiger Woods back on the course ASAP.
